Meet Fungie, The Dingle Dolphin

Meet World Famous Fungie the Dingle Dolphin

  • Fungie is a wild Bottlenose Dolphin, no one is quite sure of his age but he has been here for nearly 32 years and the experts tell us he has a lifespan of between 40 and 50 years.

  • Meet Fungie from the biggest open commercial rib in the country! Get the best pictures and videos and snaps of Fungie as we head out into Dingle Bay.

  • He is about 13 feet in length and weighs around 250kgs. The media named him in the early years and although there is no meaning in the Irish language for the word ‘Fungie’, it does suggest he is a Fun-Guy.

  • People from all walks of life, from all over the world, from 2 weeks to 93 years old, have come to Dingle especially to see Fungie. Many people decide to become one with nature, and meet with Fungie in his own environment, and brave the cold waters of the harbour (o.k. maybe not so brave when you’ve got a wetsuit!).

Dingle Peninsula Seals

West Kerry Seals

  • The Great Blasket Islands hosts a large colony of Seals. Seals are naturally curious creatures and therefore, with a good camera, it should be relatively easy to get some excellent pictures of them in their proper habitat.

  • On our trip you could potentially see one of the biggest colony of Seals in Ireland

  • Seals are amazing creatures. Seals’ thick fur and blubber offer protection against freezing temperatures.

  • Seals produce milk with 50% fats. Their babies gain 3-5 pounds daily thanks to milk.

  • Seal can hold its breath for 2 hours which is a record in the animal world.

  • Their worst enemies are orca, white bears and sharks.

Puffins

Puffins

  • Puffins visit the West Coast of Ireland between March and July each year.

  • Puffins spend most of their lives out at sea, resting on the waves when not swimming. Their range spans the eastern coast of Canada and the United States to the western coast of Europe.

  • See and get photos of Puffins in their natural habitat from our Rib!

Whales & Dolphins

Whales & Dolphins

  • A bonus along the adventure is the sighting of many Whales and Dolphins! We have sighted all of the below on our many adventures along the West Kerry Peninsula.

  • Minky Whale

  • Humpback Whale

  • Fin Whale

  • Killer Whale – Orca
